"Ergon’s CORE 3D® design intent is noticeable, especially when riding a hardtail mountain bike, and could make a great saddle option for anyone looking to wean their way off of the chamois. Does it flex and shift as Ergon claims? It sure does!" - Bikepacking.com

Good saddle

I needed a larger saddle that was well-cushioned and this did the job. I had used other saddles and couldn’t find the right fit. After several rides, I have no complaints.

Great fitting saddle, now I need Core saddles on all my bikes

I started with this saddle on my Full suspension and now need one for the eMTB and gravel bike. The Core technology adds to the comfort without adding any noticeable weight.

3,000 miles later, it is time to face the music

There is a lot to like about this saddle. The cushion is great. A first, it wasn't all that noticeable. But after I hit some gravel I could feel the difference in the extra padding. It was comfortable and not overly padded. The saddle still had a somewhat firm feel to it. I've been riding without a chamois for a few years and I was really hoping this would be the last saddle I would ever buy.

Unfortunately, the shape of the saddle is what killed it for me. The wings of the saddle flair out too much. This causes a pressure point for me as it sits right along my underwear line. It was tolerable if I was only riding every other day. It was not tolerable for multi-day events. During the ARHCR this saddle absolutely crushed me. It caused a line of saddle sores on each side of my bum on those pressure points.

However, I decided that maybe I could build up a tolerance in those areas. After a few more multi-day bikepacking events, the results were the same.

If it fit my body better, this would be a no-brainer. But, it just doesn't fit my body shape. It seems to work for a lot of other people. Hopefully, it will work for you.

The saddle held up very well after 3,000 miles. It shows no excessive signs of wear or tear.

SMC Core

Has a different feel than my other saddles. Was not sure it was an improvement over my WTB saddles during the cold morning rides. Seems to be much better now that temps are above freezing.

Comfortable without chamois

Really enjoying the SMC Core for long distance rides without a chamois.
